6/5/09: THE GOIN DOWN SOUTH TOUR!
For the month of June, my yankee ass will be going down south to ruin the confederacy once again. That's right. This Sunday begins the "Goin Down South" tour! And I've decided to bring some back up. I'll be on tour with Jared Thomas Lord, a wicked good dark country man from Massachusetts (via Las Vegas). If you're lucky, maybe you'll see him drink a Guinness in a single gulp. Seriously, he can do this...

Jared Thomas Lord at Myspace Music

The tour takes us all the way down to Florida. Everything on the coast is fair game. I'll be returning to excellent spots like Baltimore, North Carolina, and Savannah, GA as well as breaking new ground in Delaware, Virginia, and Florida.

The kickoff is this Sunday with a show in Montclair, NJ and a special radio performance on The Reverend Bookburn show. The show will be podcast over Radio Volta and will include some live in-studio rock n roll as well as interviewing. It's always a good time with Reverend, so you best tune in.

This homepage has the comprehensive details under "shows" and will be updated in case any last minute changes happen. Bookmark that shit. And if I'm crossing your path on this tour, come on out for the hootnanny. I'll be sure to shout out one "hello" on the road and update yall on all the crazy happenings. Until then, see you on the road!

I got a pretty cool announcement. I have just recently signed a deal with Hemifran which is a Sweden-based A&R company.

They'll be doing publicity for "The Jersey Devil is Here" in Europe. I'm hedging my bets with Europe in the birthplace of black metal and hopefully it will be a stepping stone towards a European tour. Onward to Europa!

It is a great honor to be played on the newest episode of "Deep Six Radio" off Radio Free Satan. Check out episode 4 to catch them playing "Napalm, Death, and Fire" and peruse the rest of Radio Free Satan, which is truly exploring the unexplored realms of expression in music and culture.

4/1/09: "The Jersey Devil is Here" review by LooseyLucy

On The Jersey Devil is Here, Darren Deicide sounds a lot like a darker, more menacing, less over-produced version of Mike Ness as a solo artist. Darren's vocals are raspy, raw, and yet very emotional. "Won't You?" is raw blues/punk rock with heavily distorted guitar that will make you want to dance in fire. "Napalm, Death, & Fire" has as much energy as a Southern Baptist revival...though much more evil. The sultry ballad, "The Jersey Devil is Here," has a melancholy fiddle line that tears at your soul, and "Hudson River Hangover" is a brooding, slow tune with compelling harmonies that shift between minor & major. "Lonesome Road" is a memorable acoustic tune, but where Darren Deicide shines out the most is with his balls-out blues rock songs. "The Cocaine Song," "The Infidelic Boogie," "Leave Me Alone," and "Ms. Liberty Blues" are all hard, emotionally unfettered, and down 'n' dirty tunes that may even get your feet tapping. If you like blues and blues rock, then you will enjoy Darren Deicide. Good songwriting!
2/17/09: A European perspective on "The Jersey Devil is Here"
I got a really great review from overseas. Rootstime.be is a European site dedicated to Americana roots music. Globalization is officially here. They reviewed "The Jersey Devil is Here", but the caveat was that it was in Dutch. Thank goodness my Dutch-speaking friend Madison in Baltimore was able to translate it. Angry Dutch people who find a mistranslation can register their complaints with him. Apparently the review was loaded with colloquial and slang phrases, so he did his best. At one point they called me "mustard" verbatim, which apparently is a Dutch slang compliment. I'm glad the Dutch have such a deep appreciation for mustard. I like it too. Here's the translated review:

In January 2007 Rootstime published a review of "Temptation and The Taboo Pt. I" from the American musician Darren Deicide (he was born on Halloween) that showed that the artist had a rock solid foundation in blues, boogie, rock 'n roll and punk rock.

Anyone that listens to his newest CD, "The Jersey Devil", will immediately recognize that the raw, morose, dark and morbid song stylings and anarchistic lyrics are still sharp and urgent.

Darren Deicide has lived for a while in Jersey City, New Jersey where he works as a columnist for the magazine Aquarian Weekly with his band The Hopeless Dregs Of Humanity. He runs his own record label- Ever Reviled Records, which released this latest album.

Raw punk songs like "Won't You" and the explosive "Napalm, Death And Fire" (the title speaks for itself) are, happily, interspersed with more accessible numbers like the title track "The Jersey Devil" (that comes across as a quiet, fingerpicking number) and "The Hudson River Hangover".

But the lion's share of the numbers are mournfully sung punk and blues tracks with howling, shreading accompaniment. Examples of this are "The Cocaine Song", "Infidelic Boogie" and "Ms. Liberty Blues".

It seems that Darren Deicide is angry with everyone in the whole world and that anger is given a screaming voice with these powerful songs.

Someone who calls himself The Jersey Devil (like the Springsteen song "A Night With The Jersey Devil") knows that he should always be burning, on fire. The real Devil might start to worry himself about the competition coming out of the corner from New Jersey and this CD.

2/10/09: Email change!
The wonderful people at Mutual Aid have discontinued my email without warning. So much for "mutual aid". As a result, I have a new personal email, and it is darrendeicide@gmail.com. If I am somebody that you regularly correspond with over email (or even somebody I correspond with only on occasion), please send me your email so I can re-enter you into my address book. If you were someone I was talking to regarding booking, please get back to me because there's a good chance I lost your email address!
1/23/09: Want Me to Come to Your Town?
Ok everyone. Consider this a more personal message directed to all of you. I stand strongly by my reputation as an ass-kicking, rabble-rousing, foot-stomping rock n roller that tears down the juke whenever given the chance. This summer, I hit the road to reestablish my throne. My question to you is, do you want to boogie down?

I am looking for anyone that would be interested in booking me this summer. I plan on going generally towards New Orleans and back, so everything in-between there and NJ is fair game. This will be mostly in June, but will likely go into July. I can play anywhere. Let me repeat that again...I can play anywhere. However, my place of choice to play in any situation is a rowdy, whiskey-swilling house show. It's easier to put together than you probably think. Not much is required beyond the will to do it and a space.

If you're interested, then email me back at darrendeicide@gmail.com, and we'll figure how to route you into the tour. I promise, you will not regret it.

And while you consider that, chew on this recent review from The Biggest Letdown on "The Jersey Devil is Here". There are a couple lines in here that are simply priceless...

Darren Deicide - The Jersey Devil is Here
Written by Andy
Monday, 19 January 2009
Darren Deicide's newest album from Ever Reviled records just popped up on my desk. Not on it's own, mind you. But it looks interesting. Let's have a listen...

This album is actually surprising to me. First off, don't ever describe an artist to a music reviewer as SPOKEN WORD. That was almost a deal-breaker for me. Darren is really good. Think of a pissed off Hazel Adkins, mixed with any and all good punk rockers. The songs on this album are kind of sinister and moody. I feel as though I'm listening to a man who wants to kill me - and my family. Almost like GG Allen. If Edger Allen Poe, Trent Reznor, Hazel Adkins and Rob Zombie wrote music together, they would sound like Darren Deicide.

The songs that really stand out for me are NAPALM, DEATH AND FIRE and THE JERSEY DEVIL IS HERE. Those are some great tracks. Really creepy and moody music. Also, I can't forget about THE COCAINE SONG. I'm not a fan of people who use drugs, but that song is really terrific.

If you want to explore the sad and dismal world of Darren Deicide, you definitely need this album. Go out and pick it up. Tell 'em that Andy sent you.

1/13/09: More Radio Stuff
Reverend Bookburn has been pumping "The Jersey Devil is Here" over at Radio Volta, and I may be over there doing some in-studio and interview stuff soon. More updates will come. In the meantime, check out "The Reverend is In". I've met people who've gone through phases of iconoclasm and rebellion, but this man is truly an unrelenting warrior against the forces of prudery and repression. Reverend Bookburn is a counter-culture mainstay! Tune in!

Also, the awesome podcast Whiskey N Waterbeds Radio did a segment on "The Jersey Devil is Here" and Ever Reviled Records. Catch episode 25 to hear the juiciness...

1/6/09: Happy New Year!
Just kidding. I probably don't know about 75% of you on here, so I probably don't care about your year. Really I'm just looking for an excuse to send you some news. See, it worked.

"The Jersey Devil is Here" is now available on Interpunk.com and DWM Music.

"The Jersey Devil is Here" at Interpunk.com

"The Jersey Devil is Here" at DWM Music

I'm amused by this since I'm often dubbed a punk-blues fusionist. Interpunk is solely dedicated to getting punk music out there, while DWM Music specializes in Americana. It's fun to straddle that line. Both are independent and besides having my music, they have a plethora of interesting shit from both genres. So I encourage you to support them. It's just another way you can get my new CD.

And if you haven't and are still twiddling your thumbs about it, maybe the latest review from Jersey Beat fanzine can motivate you...

JERSEY BEAT on "THE JERSEY DEVIL IS HERE"
Keith Kenny Meets Lenny Kravitz, and They Hitch a Ride to John Lee Hooker's House to Shoot Pool and Jam!

Any time you conjure up The Jersey Devil, like oh, say Springsteen did on his Halloween release of the single "A Night With the Jersey Devil" (Bruce performs a menacingly, spooky, Bo Diddley beat tirade), you'd better be able to up the ante on the song, adding to the legend.

Darren Decide creates a slow, bluesy, cadence to his creepy, cool sandpaper vocals, on his homage to the horned-one, on The Jersey Devil is Here. The whole album is full of mysteriously raw, and knock-you-out blues rock. "The Cocaine Song," "Ms. Liberty Blues," and "The Infidelic Boogie," give lyrical support to Darren's emotional vocals. The latter song covers lots of stylistic ground, while remaining sharp and structured. Bare-boned yet atmospheric, "The Jersey Devil is Here" is totally fresh, and beyond nostalgic. - Phil Rainone

There is much more news to come, including a big show in New York City with my longtime friend David Rovics and more radio fun. Until then...
